In recent years, many university presses and academic libraries have merged and weathered major changes in higher education together. Despite this alignment, presses and libraries often remain at odds over issues of cost and access. How can we bridge the gap and better support research and teaching? This session will address actual concerns from librarians and lay a foundation for more effective negotiation and collaboration. Questions to be addressed include: How much does it really cost to publish a monograph? Why are some publishers resistant to mandated institutional repository deposits? Can libraries disrupt the system by becoming publishers themselves?
